Policy statement

Neath Athletic RFC understand that there is a legal and moral obligation to protect and improve the environment for future generations. Neath Athletic RFC commits to ensuring that its activities and premises do not have a negative impact on the environment. This policy outlines Neath Athletic RFC commitments around this and how the Club will meet them.  This policy does not form part of any contract and Neath Athletic RFC may update it at any time.

Procedure

Responsibilities

Everyone involved with Neath Athletic RFC has a responsibility to behave in an environmentally considerate manner, challenge occasions where this does not happen and report any incidents which might have an adverse environmental impact.  Neath Athletic RFC will investigate any such reports and take remedial steps as necessary to resolve the issue.

Compliance

Neath Athletic RFC will comply with all relevant environmental legislation and regulatory requirements.  The persons responsible for this are the Committee Members of Neath Athletic RFC..

Waste

Neath Athletic RFC will promote waste reduction and appropriate waste management, and will take the following approach:

  1. prevent waste e.g., by only purchasing what is needed.
  2. re-use materials where possible e.g., repairing kit.
  3. recycle materials were possible e.g., separating waste into recyclable and non-recyclable.
  4. dispose of waste to landfill when the previous options are exhausted.

Neath Athletic RFC will separate hazardous waste appropriately.  Neath Athletic RFC will ensure that it uses reputable waste carriers for disposal of all waste, that waste carrier companies are appropriately registered, that a copy of the waste transfer note is obtained and retained for at least two years. Neath Athletic RFC will make waste transfer notes available for inspection by anyone who needs to see them.

Hazardous substances

Under the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) regulations, Neath Athletic RFC will identify and assess any hazardous substances, such as cleaning products, and will ensure that these are stored and used in a way which does not present a risk to the environment.

Energy and Water

Neath Athletic RFC will conserve energy and water usage wherever possible by:

  • using energy efficient products wherever possible
  • ensuring that lights, electrical equipment etc are switched off when not in use
  • closing windows and doors when heating systems are being used
  • ensuring that taps are turned off when not in use
  • repairing any leaky taps, pipes, toilets etc.

Other resources

Neath Athletic RFC will minimise its use of other resources and wherever possible, will purchase environmentally friendly products, such as recycled paper.

Travel

Neath Athletic RFC will reduce the impact of vehicle emissions from travelling to and from its facilities and away games etc by encouraging the use of public transport, lift sharing and walking or cycling wherever possible.

Purchasing

Neath Athletic RFC will, as far as possible, purchase products and services which have the least damage to the environment.

Noise

Neath Athletic RFC will ensure that noise levels are kept to reasonable limits in relation to people and traffic in and around its premises.

Availability and Review

Neath Athletic RFC will keep this policy available in the Club and on the Neath Athletic RFC website.  Anyone who needs to read it (such as any workers, volunteers, contractors, members of the public etc) can do so.

The Committee will continuously review this policy as and when its necessary.
